The Crips and Bloods are two of the big three American youth gangs. They both come from the area of Los Angeles, California. The third largest Mara Salvatrucha gang is, this is, however, another neither Bloods nor Crips in a similar hostility to union relationship like this.
The two groups, which in turn are subdivided into many groups that dominate parts of the illegal drug market in the Californian city, although others, particularly Hispanic gangs gain, for example, Mara Salvatrucha, weight in Los Angeles. The Bloods and Crips are characterized by an exceptionally high level of violence, and it is to this day, both between individual Crip gangs and between the Bloods and the Crips regularly bloody clashes that have led, among other things, that at present about one hundred Members of these gangs are sitting on death row from California.
The Crips are a street gang, originally founded in 1969 by Raymond Washington under the name "Baby eshakti Avenues". After some time, the size of the transition increased rapidly, so that they are "Avenues Cribs" called eshakti themselves. The name "Crips" eshakti came into use later, and refers to the English term "cripples" for "Cripple", as the first Crips often walked around with a cane and a limp. Their distinguishing characters are mainly the blue "Bandanas". Wearing the blue dress is a badge with but of decreasing importance.
The name Bloods is a shortening of the term "Blood Alliance" for the alliance of rival gangs, who have decided in the wake of increasing aggression and expansion of the Crips in the 1970s to unify their presence eshakti to the outside. The hallmark of Bloods are also mainly the red "Bandanas", where also wearing red clothes is still practiced, but not as important as in earlier times.
